Finite-dimensional Gaussian approximation with linear inequality constraints

چکیده
Introducing inequality constraints in Gaussian process (GP) models can lead to more realistic uncertainties in learning a great variety of real-world problems. We consider the finite-dimensional Gaussian approach from Maatouk and Bay (2017) which can satisfy inequality conditions everywhere (either boundedness, monotonicity or convexity). Our contributions are threefold. First, we extend their approach in order to deal with general sets of linear inequalities. Second, we explore several Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques to approximate the posterior distribution. Third, we investigate theoretical and numerical properties of the constrained likelihood for covariance parameter estimation. According to experiments on both artificial and real data, our full framework together with a Hamiltonian Monte Carlo-based sampler provides efficient results on both data fitting and uncertainty quantification.

Linear Objective Function Optimization with the Max-product Fuzzy Relation Inequality Constraints
In this paper, an optimization problem with a linear objective function subject to a consistent finite system of fuzzy relation inequalities using the max-product composition is studied. Since its feasible domain is non-convex, traditional linear programming methods cannot be applied to solve it. We study this problem and capture some special characteristics of its feasible domain and optimal s...
متن کاملPhase-Field Relaxation of Topology Optimization with Local Stress Constraints
We introduce a new relaxation scheme for structural topology optimization problems with local stress constraints based on a phase-field method. The starting point of the relaxation is a reformulation of the material problem involving linear and 0–1 constraints only. The 0–1 constraints are then relaxed and approximated by a Cahn-Hilliard type penalty in the objective functional, which yields co...
متن کاملA new method for interpolating in a convex subset of a Hilbert space
In this paper, interpolating curve or surface with linear inequality constraints is considered as a general convex optimization problem in a Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space. We propose a new approximation method based on a discretized optimization problem in a finite-dimensional Hilbert space under the same set of constraints. We prove that the approximate solution converges uniformly to the o...
متن کاملStability of infinite dimensional control problems with pointwise state constraints
A general class of nonlinear infinite dimensional optimization problems is considered that covers semi-linear elliptic control problems with distributed control as well as boundary control. Moreover, pointwise inequality constraints on the control and the state are incorporated. The general optimization problem is perturbed by a certain class of perturbations, and we establish convergence of lo...
متن کاملRobust H∞ Filter Design Using Frequency Gridding
This paper considers the design of robust H∞ filters for continuous-time linear systems with uncertainties described by integral quadratic constraints (IQCs). The synthesis problem can be converted into an infinite-dimensional optimization with frequency dependent linear matrix inequality constraints on the filter and IQC multipliers. This optimization is approximated by a finite dimensional se...
